EV Charging Stations that are Free?
With the rise of popularity of EV cars, the number of EV charging stations are also on the rise. However most of these charging stations usually charge a certain rate when used to charge your EVs. The charging rates are quite low like $0.65/kWH for most Shell Recharge stations. But what if we told you that there are some free charging stations that you can find in Singapore? Yes you heard it right, FREE.
- Marina Bay Sands: The hotel/casino/luxury shopping mall has 8 free charging stations which you can use. You can find them here. However do note that there is a parking fee unless of course you are a Sands LifeStyle Loyalty Programme and they might be reserved.
- Various Hotels: Most popular hotels in Singapore offer free charging services for their guests such as JW Marriot Check with the hotels beforehand to see if they provide this service during your stay or when using their services such as their restaurants.
- Various Recreational Clubs: Just like hotels, various recreational clubs offer free EV charging services to members such as Sentosa Golf Club and . Check in with the clubs beforehand to see if they provide such services.
Previously Free Charging Sites
Sad to say but these charging sites used to be free but are now charged according to their respective service providers:
- Changi Airport: The previous crown Jewel (pun intended) used to offer free charging stations for EVs, making it convenient for anyone to charge their vehicles. Whether you are waiting to pick up someone or just there to have a meal and shop, you were able to use this service. However the EV charging stations there are no longer free.
- IKEA Alexandra and Tampines: Another sad piece of news is Ikea Alexandra and Tampines now charging for their used to be free EV charging stations. Although you can no longer enjoy the free EV charging stations, you can still enjoy some good Swedish meatballs there.
- Sembawang Shopping Centre: Sembawang Shopping Centre is another one of the free EV charging stations that is no longer free anymore. You can still enjoy spending the day with with your family and friends.
